Household context guide

Choosing Litter-Robot 4 litter for a multi-cat household

Cat count changes load and maintenance context, but current reports cannot produce a universal multi-cat litter ranking.

Decision rail

Four checks, in order

Passing one check does not override a failure or unknown in the next. This is a compatibility decision, not a popularity ranking.

  1. 01Load

    Record cats and machines

Four cats across three units is not the same load as two cats sharing one unit.

  2. 02Timing

    Keep delay and drawer intervals

Higher use can change clump moisture and maintenance frequency without proving a product defect.

  3. 03Fit

    Apply the same material boundary

A Multi-Cat label does not override weight, clumping, screening, or non-clumping exclusions.

  4. 04Evidence

    Do not rank unmatched homes

Different households cannot be compared as if cat count were the only variable.

Evidence transfer ledger

How far this evidence can travel

A report stays attached to the identity and conditions it actually names. Each unresolved mismatch stops transfer; similarity alone does not fill the missing field.

Household load

Record cats per machine

Can support
A result under the reported distribution of cats and LR4 units.
Stop transfer when
Total cats are copied without the number of machines or which cats actually use each unit.
Observation window

Carry duration and repeated use

Can support
The reported sticking, tracking, clumping, or maintenance signal over that period.
Stop transfer when
A short or unstated duration is treated as long-term multi-cat reliability.
Operating schedule

Retain cycle delay and drawer interval

Can support
Interpretation of clump moisture and maintenance within the stated routine.
Stop transfer when
A different output load or emptying schedule could materially change drawer and liner conditions.
Exact formula

Match the complete product name

Can support
One SKU's outcome in the recorded household.
Stop transfer when
A Multi-Cat label, brand family, scent, or weight variant substitutes for exact identity.
Comparison scope

Prefer within-household changes

Can support
A cautious before-and-after observation when the same home and machine remain stable.
Stop transfer when
Unmatched households are ranked as if cat count were the only differing variable.

What Litter-Robot actually says

These statements describe classes and limits. They are not PawExact tests and do not automatically approve every product using the same marketing term.

Exact-product records

Products that show why the class label is not enough

The selected reports contain multi-cat context but are not normalized per cat or per machine. Counts are conditions, not performance scores.

Report applicability

Keep each observation with its original conditions

Multi-cat context changes how an LR4 report should be read, but cats per household are not cats per machine and use periods are not equal exposures.

Before a larger purchase

A small, observable first-use check

This is not a controlled test protocol. It is a way to notice an obvious mismatch before treating one successful cycle as proof.

  1. Check 1Record cats per machine and daily cycle load.
  2. Check 2Keep fill, delay, drawer change, and cleaning intervals with the product result.
  3. Check 3Inspect sticking, breakage, screen loss, dust, and tracking separately.
  4. Check 4Compare changes within the same household before comparing unmatched public reports.

Known limits

What the current evidence cannot prove

  • Current reports do not normalize litter performance per cat or per cycle.
  • Health, urine volume, diet, humidity, machine count, and cleaning differ across homes.
  • PawExact cannot publish a universal multi-cat winner or failure frequency from these reports.

Evidence readiness

What this guide can support today

This checkpoint separates a useful answer from claims the current official rules and exact records still cannot support. It is an editorial evidence review, not a PawExact test.

Question scope
In a busy LR4 home, first count cats per machine and recent cycles, then record top-up, physical fill, drawer interval, and exact formula. A crowded drawer and an overfilled bed are different branches, not a Multi-Cat SKU verdict.
Direct official boundary
Today's no-cycle source separately lists a full waste drawer and excess litter or weight; the LR4 product FAQ retains its material and clumping limits. Higher household use does not turn a Multi-Cat package label into maker approval or override the physical fill line.
Exact-product evidence
Accepted records include a four-cat, three-LR4 Dr. Elsey's Ultra sticking account and a two-cat, multi-month 24/7 residue account. A five-cat BoxiePro context also exists, but machine assignment is not interchangeable with cats per unit.
Remaining gap
The accepted multi-cat homes do not normalize events per cat per LR4, and the records mix differing fill, delay, cleaning, and observation windows. They cannot yield an incidence, an ideal top-up schedule, or an independent index case for one formula.

Intent boundary

Keep the next question narrower

Use this page to keep cats per LR4, machine count, drawer interval, and exact product attached to a household result. It does not rank Multi-Cat bags or turn total cats into a per-machine workload.
