Evidence-first comparison
Cat litter for Litter-Robot 4
Fourteen products with an official exact-SKU statement or reviewed public report. Sorted by evidence strength—not by sponsorship, popularity, or an invented score.
Exact SKU named by a brand. This confirms a compatibility claim, not measured performance.
At least three reviewed independent public reports agree under their stated conditions.
One or more reviewed reports, but not enough consistent evidence to generalize.
Before choosing a product
Start with the machine rule, then narrow to an exact SKU
The table is not a “best litter” ranking. It combines different evidence levels, formulas and household conditions, so the decision must happen in layers.
- 01
Use the preferred baseline
Litter-Robot recommends high-quality, standard-weight, clay-based clumping litter. Products outside that class need a specific reason and closer observation.
- 02
Apply material limits
Small crystals may work only when they pass the screen, while light or translucent litter may affect readings. Plant, paper, wood and non-clumping products carry separate warnings.
- 03
Read the evidence stamp
An official exact-SKU statement, three consistent reports and one report answer different questions. Do not sort them as if they were equal reviews.
- 04
Open the exact record
Check the recorded conditions, unresolved issues and source before buying a large quantity or transferring a result to a similar-looking formula.
Published boundary
Five statements define the LR4 litter envelope
These are class-level maker statements. They do not replace exact-product evidence or PawExact editor testing.
“Some silica gel litter beads and crystals can also be used with Litter-Robot, as long as they pass through the screen. However, translucent or white-colored litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy in Litter-Robot 4 and are therefore not recommended.”Official source
“Alternative, plant-based litters typically do not work with Litter-Robot as these may not be filtered properly through the sifting system.”Official source
“Litters that do not work in Litter-Robot are the strictly absorbent, non-clumping or loose-clumping litters, newspaper-based litters, and absorbent wood pellet litter.”Official source

A “good” single report is weaker than repeatable testing. PawExact has not independently tested any item in this list.
Use this comparison safely
A shortlist, not a winner
The most useful next step is to reduce uncertainty for your exact machine and formula—not to copy the first positive label.
- Match the exact bag. Product families often contain standard, lightweight, scented and alternative-material formulas.
- Prefer repeatable evidence. One household can reveal a risk, but it cannot establish a universal rate or ranking.
- Watch multiple failure modes. Cycling, clump integrity, clean-litter loss, liner sticking, tracking and sensor readings are separate outcomes.
- Recheck after formula changes. A renamed or reformulated SKU may no longer match the saved source or report.
